Description

A portrait of Viggo Mortensen as Strider in Peter Jackson's FOTR. I painted this in Painter 7 and made a few finishing touches in Photoshop CS. It took a lot of time for me to finish, countless hours- Although I used a reference picture from FOTR, I had to buy the Strider Sword replica from UC so I had some reference (at least that's what I'm trying to convince myself of

The sword is indeed well-done. The arm, especially around the wond, is the weakest part compared to the rest of the image in my opion... Nevertheless as a portrait the likeness is quite good

He looks a little more worried than Viggo normally does, but I guess that fits the Strider persona quite well.

The likeness in the face is absolutely incredible - I think you've done a fantastic job, you've got real character in this picture. I'd say your biggest problem is with rendering the fabric as realistically and cripsply as you have his face, but other than that, it's absolutely beautiful, and I'm in love with it. (And him! ^^

You just wanted to buy the sword b/c it's cool! Needing it as a reference was just a good excuse. Nice job on the rendering of him. I think the compisition would benefit if you had carryed it down a little further and haden't cut off the sword.

Wow.... great image! Amazing rendering of the face! The two main things that bother me about the image is the flat look of the cut/fringe on his left arm, and how the hands have more of a outline than the rest of the image. But those are minor, really. Great stuff! +5/7

If his hand were resting on the sword, you would probably see less of the silver knob on the end of the sword as it would be resting in his palm.....or his palm resting on it.....whatever.

The arm on the right looks a bit like it's sunken into his body about halfway down his upper arm. It'd be jutting further out, I think.

Don't mind me....I'm always too critical. This is an excellent painting- the likeness is incredible. Well done!
